1. ONGC-HPCL merger:
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given in-principle approval for the sale of the government's 51.11 per cent stake along with the management control of HPCL to the ONGC, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) will continue as a public sector undertaking after Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) acquires its stake, the minister said in the Lok Sabha. "The proposed acquisition in the oil sector will create a vertically integrated public sector oil major company having presence across the entire value chain. "This will give ONGC an enhanced capacity to bear higher risks, take higher investment decisions and to neutralise impact of global crude oil price volatility," Pradhan said.

More than half the world's population live in countries that have nuclear weapons or are members of nuclear alliances. There are at least 17,000 nuclear weapons in the world today.

3. Prime Minister's Council of Economic Advisers, Vivek Debroy Chairman:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday formed the Economic Advisory Council between the softening of the economy. Famous economists have been included in the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM). According to a statement issued by the government, the economic council headed by Dr. Vivek Debroy, member of the Policy Commission will advise the Prime Minister in various economic matters. The work of the Council will be to analyze and advise on the economic or other related issues handed down by the Prime Minister. Apart from this, the Prime Minister needs to know the issues of comprehensive economic importance and his views about him. The council will also look at other works given by the Prime Minister from time to time.

4. Indonesia has the world's smallest 73 mm squirrels:

Indonesia's scientists claim to find the world's smallest squirrel in the Borneo rain forest in the country. Officials said on Monday that this endangered squirrel has emerged for the first time. According to the news agency Xinhua, a senior scientist said that this squirrel named Bermion Pigmy squirrels or the Acilissiusurus axilis was found on the Merratos mountain in the South Kalimantan province.

5. RIL world’s 3rd largest energy firm - Platts rankings:

Reliance Industries (RIL) and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) have made big leaps in the global energy sector this year, according to the latest S&P Global Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings, which saw Russia’s Gazprom end American giant ExxonMobil’s 12-year reign at No.1. Germany-based energy company E.ON SE ranked second.
While RIL improved its position by five places to third, IOC breached the top 10 for the first time and was placed seventh against last year’s fourteenth. Significantly, 10 of the 14 Indian energy companies that made it to the S&P list this year improved their rankings. In 2016, the list included 15 Indian firms.

6. Home Minister to Launch Portal 'PENCIL' on Child Labour Elimination:

PENCIL is launched to foster the creation of a child labour free India, which will seamlessly integrate implementing and monitoring mechanisms for both, enforcement of the legislative provisions and effective implementation of the National Child Labour Project (NCLP).
"The genesis of the portal is in the felt need to create a robust implementing and monitoring mechanism for both enforcement of the legislative provisions and effective implementation of the NCLP especially in the backdrop that the subject of labour is in the concurrent list and enforcement to a large extent depends of respective state governments,".
