About IAS :

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India including the 

  • Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
  • Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
  • Indian Police Service (IPS) and 
  • Indian Revenue Service (IRS).

The examination is the toughest examination in India, with more than 11,00,000 applicants and a success rate of 0.1%-0.3%, one of the lowest in the world.
It is conducted in two phases - 
  1. preliminary examination consisting of two objective-type papers (general studies and aptitude test), and 
  2. main examination consisting of nine papers of the conventional (essay) type followed by a personality test (interview). 
The entire process from the notification of the preliminary examination to declaration of the final results takes roughly one year.


Every year Union Public Service Commission conducts Civil Services Exams across India. There are around 10 lakhs forms received by UPSC from aspirants of IAS Exam. Out of which on an average 60% appears in PT. This article will help you to understand all about IAS exam.
10 times of total vacancy is called for mains written test and 3 times of total vacancy is called for interview.
