1. Tesla opens two Supercharger stations in US:
US electric car maker Tesla on Monday opened its first two “city centre” Supercharger stations in Chicago and Boston. “Now, as part of our commitment to make Tesla ownership easy for everyone, including those without immediate access to home or workplace charging, we are expanding our Supercharger network into city centers, starting with downtown Chicago and Boston,” the company said in a blog post. The Chicago station can charge 10 vehicles at a time, while the Boston station can charge eight.
2. India takes second place, behind US in hackathons:
India takes second place, behind US in hackathons With 105 events in the 2015, India stands next only to US in hosting hackathons. According to the’ Global Hackathon Report’ by HackerEarth, a talent management software provider, India is behind US, which has 379 hackathons. The report also features a clear cut outline that hackathons are successfully battling the talent scarcity, acquisition and retention, as well as push innovation in various fields and functionalities’.
3. Information security spending in India to hit $1.5bn:
Spending on information security products and services in India will reach $1.5 billion in 2017 — an increase of 12 per cent over last year, market research firm Gartner said on Tuesday. The strong growth was attributed to the widespread skills shortages and proliferation of new security initiatives that several large organisations in the country are engaging in.
The report said that many Indian enterprises are in their first or second iteration of creating and maturing their security programmes, meaning that they have a need for a wide range of security services to help build their security processes and technologies.
4. After India, Google expands public Wi-Fi to Indonesia:
After a successful run in India, Google has brought its public Wi-Fi programme ‘Google Station’ to Indonesia that will help improve access to Internet at railway stations and other locations. “We are partnering with CBN and Fiberstar to bring high-speed public Wi-Fi to hundreds of locations across Indonesia,” Google said in a blog post on Friday.
Google, in collaboration with Railtel, has rolled out free Wi-Fi service at several railway stations in India, offering high-speed internet to millions of people.
5. Gorakhpur, Koraput and Thane to launch Zero Hunger Programme on October 16:
Three districts - Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Koraput in Odisha and Thane in Maharashtra - will initiate India's ambitious 'Zero Hunger' programme through interventions in farm sector on October 16 (World Food Day).
The Programme will be initiated by the the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
6. India-born Sriram Krishnan joins Twitter as senior director:
India-born Sriram Krishnan, a former top executive from Facebook and Snap, has been hired by Twitter as its senior director of product. Krishnan will be joining Twitter from 2 October. He will be responsible for a lot of the core features inside the main app, internally referred to as “Bluebird,” including timeline, direct messaging and search, technology news website Recode reported.
7. Singapore to set up Skill Center in North East: Dr Jitendra Singh:
Singapore will set up a Skill Center at Guwahati which will cater to the entire North-Eastern region. This was stated by Minister of State of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh after a meeting with High Commissioner of Singapore in New Delhi yesterday. Dr Singh said, the Skill Center is proposed to be set up at Guwahati by the year 2019.
