1. Las Vegas concert massacre toll reaches 59 :

The death toll from the mass shooting at a Las Vegas country music concert has increased to 59, while 527 others were injured.
Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire with automatic weapons on some 22,000 people at the Route 91 Harvest concert from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on Sunday at around 10.30 p.m. Paddock killed himself as special response team officers broke into the hotel room, police said.

2. Government launches wildlife action plan for next 15 years :

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Harsh Vardhan on Friday said the government will make new national wildlife action plan for next 15 years, for conservation and management of wildlife and swachh wildlife habitat. Addressing mediapersons here, Dr Vardhan said, "On October 2, 2017 we will be launching the National Wildlife Action Plan for the period from 2017 to 2031.
The GWP 2017 is organised jointly by the government in partnership with World Bank and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) this year from October 2, 2017 coinciding with ‘Wildlife Week’.

3. IndianOil receives first crude oil cargo from the US:

Indian Oil Corp. (IndianOil) on Monday said it has received its first US crude oil cargo of 1.6 million barrels. According to the company, it received the shipment at Paradip port in Odisha.
A Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), of capacity 2 million barrels of crude, left US Gulf Coast on 19th August and arrived at Paradip port today,” the company said in a statement. “IndianOil will process the crude at its east-coast base refineries, located at Paradip, Haldia, Barauni and Bongaigaon.”
IndianOil has placed a cumulative order of 3.9 million barrels from the US.

4. Saudi Arabia plans to increase capacity of Mecca’s Grand Mosque:
Saudi Arabia on Monday announced a plan to launch a company to increase the capacity of the Grand Mosque in Mecca to accommodate pilgrims who are expected to reach more than 30 million by 2030. 
The Public Investment Fund announced in a statement on Saudi Press Agency the launch of Rou'a Al Haram company to develop areas around the holy sites of Mecca and raise the quality of services in the local hospitality sector. 
The projects will create around 160,000 job opportunities by 2030, with an estimated annual contribution to GDP of $2.1 billion, Xinhua news agency reported. The first phase of the company's projects will cover an area of 854,000 square metres, delivering 115 buildings of various architectural designs.

5. India loses 6% GDP annually due to unsanitary conditions:

The lack of sanitary conditions in India has a serious economic consequence too as it causes a loss of 6 per cent of the GDP every year, said Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu.
In his address at the ‘Safaigiri Awards’ function organised by the India Today Group on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Naidu said that the situation is very serious as facts stand as every family loses approximately Rs 50,000 every year due to unsanitary conditions.

1. Madhya Pradesh bags ‘Best Tourism State’ award for third time in a row:

President Ram Nath Kovind handed over the award, named as 'Hall of Fame Award', to Minister of State for Tourism Surendra Patwa at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Wednesday, a Madhya Pradesh Public Relations Department officer said.
The official said the state bagged the Most Innovative Tourist Product award for ‘Hanuwantia Jal Mahotsav’ and Best State for Adventure Tourism. While Chanderi was adjudged as the Best Heritage City, the Best Tourist-Friendly Railway Station award was given to Ujjain Railway Station. The Best Civic Management of a Tourist Destination of India award was given to Khargone. An English coffee-table book published by MP Tourism Board, won the national award for Excellence in Publishing, the official said. Madhya Pradesh also received a national award for Film Promotion Policy in the category of Best Film Promotion Friendly State/Union Territory.

2. Vice President releases book 'Securing India: The Modi Way':

Senior Journalist Nitin Gokhale's book Securing India the Modi Way: Pathankot, surgical strikes and more was released by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi.
As the daring Surgical strikes by Indian Army at terror launch pads in Pak occupied Kashmir completes one year, the exemplary courage by the Special Forces unit has inspired many authors to write about the attack.

3. Ram Nath Kovind's first international trip to take president to Ethiopia:

President Ram Nath Kovind will visit Ethiopia and Djibouti as part of his maiden foreign trip in the first week of October. At a time when India is trying to establish its presence in Africa, Kovind's visit acquires special significance. It's also likely to be a response to China's attempts at making inroads into the continent.

4. Rajiv Sabharwal to be new CEO of Tata Capital:

In yet another top-level change at a Tata Group company, Rajiv Sabharwal will be the new CEO and MD of Tata Capital. Next April, banking veteran Sabharwal will replace Praveen Kadle, who has been at the helm of Tata Capital since its formation a decade ago. Kadle, 60, subsequently will move into an advisory role within the Tata Group. 

5. V K Saxena appointed KVIC chairman:

Former Chairman of Dholera Port project in Gujarat and a social worker, V K Saxena, has been appointed as Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
The KVIC is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament. In April 1957, it took over the work of former All India Khadi and Village Industries Board.

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed five new Governors

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed five new Governors for the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Meghalaya. A statement from the President’s office said the appointments will come into effect from the date the incumbents assume charge of the new posts.

1. Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. 

The 78-year-old was a Commander of NSG (Black Cat Commandos) and was instrumental in the successful rescue operation during the Indian Airlines plane hijacking at Amritsar in 1993. He has served in the China war of 1962, Bangladesh liberation operations in 1971, and in LTTE operations in Sri Lanka in 1987-88. He also volunteered for the Kargil war after retirement.

2. Satya Pal Malik as the Governor of Bihar.

Malik held the profile of MoS, Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism brief period – almost six months – in 1990. The 71-year-old was twice a member of the Rajya Sabha and once of the Lok Sabha. He was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly during the mid to late ’70s.

3. Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Tamil Nadu. 

Purohit, who was the Governor of Assam till now, will be replacing Ch Vidyasagar Rao in his capacity as the state’s Governor. Given the turmoil within the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, the Governor’s role becomes all the more crucial. Purohit is a veteran political leader from Vidarbha.

4. Prof Jagdish Mukhi as the Governor of Assam.
 
Previously the Governor of Andaman & Nicabar islands, Mukhi previously held various profiles in the Delhi Government such as Finance, Plannes, Excise & Taxation and Higher Education. In the Delhi Assembly, he led the Opposition for almost 10 ten years.
  
5. Ganga Prasad as the Governor of Meghalaya. 

Prasad was an MLC in Bihar for 18 years. He led the Opposition as an MLC for five of those years. Talking to news agency ANI, the newly appointed Governor of Meghalaya said, “I will work in harmony with the political parties there, abide by constitution&perform my duty.”

6. Devendra Kumar Joshi as the Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar islands. 

Joshi served as Chief of Naval Staff from August 2012 to February 2014. From 1996-99, he held the position of Defence Adviser at the Indian High Commission in Singapore.

1. Rajiv Sabharwal to take charge as Tata Capital CEO:

Tata Capital announced the appointment of Rajiv Sabharwal as Managing Director & CEO designate of the company. Sabharwal will be joining Tata Capital in January 2018 and would be taking over from the company’s current Managing Director & CEO Praveen P Kadle. Mr Kandle will be assuming other responsibilities in the Tata Group effective April 1, 2018. Sabharwal is currently a partner at True North Managers LLP, formerly India Value Fund Advisors. He was an Executive Director on ICICI Bank’s board before joining True North. 

2. Union Finance Minister releases book on Financial Management :

The Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Arun Jaitley along with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu released a book on financial management in New Delhi. The book titled “A to Z of Financial Management in Autonomous Institutions” is authored by Dr. Rajat Bhargava and Shri Deenanath Pathak. 

3. Russia destructed its last Chemical Weapons:

Russia has liquidated the last arsenals of chemical weapons in the Southwest of the country, 3 years ahead of schedule. In 2010, Moscow set a 2015 target date for eliminating its chemical stockpile and later extended it to 2020. Russia & United States are parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, which required them to destroy their stockpiles by 2007 with a potential extension until 2012. 

4. Madhya Pradesh bags ‘Best Tourism State’ Award :

Madhya Pradesh has won the ‘Best Tourism State’ national award for the third consecutive year. President Ram Nath Kovind handed over the award, named as ‘Hall of Fame Award’, to Minister of State for Tourism Surendra Patwa at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The state bagged total 10 awards in this programme, organised on the occasion of World Tourism Day. Madhya Pradesh also received a national award for Film Promotion Policy in the category of Best Film Promotion Friendly State/Union Territory. 

5. Gujarat to be first big state to use EVMs with VVPAT :

Gujarat will become first big state to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) equipped with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in coming Assembly elections to make election process more transparent. It was announced by Election Commission of India. Gujarat will be second state after Goa to use VVPAT system for the Assembly elections in entire state. The VVPATs will cover all 50,128 polling booths during 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections. As many as 70,182 VVPAT machines will be used during election elections. Earlier, VVPATs were used on pilot basis in limited polling booths of state in 2012 elections. 

6. For the First Time, Five Indian Shuttlers in Top-20 of BWF Men’s Rankings:

For the first time, Five Indians are in the top-20 of the BWF men’s singles rankings with H S Prannoy being the biggest gainer after his quarterfinal showing at the Japan Open. Prannoy has jumped four places to be world no.15. The 5 Indian Shuttlers in the top 20 BWF men’s singles rankings are- 
Kidambi Srikanth (8th), HS Prannoy (15th), B Sai Praneeth (17th), Sameer Verma (19th), Ajay Jayaram (20th) .

7. India and Norway sign Letter of Intent to bilateral extend health cooperation :
India has signed Letter of Intent (LoI) with Norway to extend cooperation within health sector through Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) for period of three years starting from 2018. Through this LoI, cooperation between both countries will continue to be aligned with development goals of India as outlined in its National Health Policy, 2017 for achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs
