1. Newton’ is India’s official entry to Oscars 2018:

Newton’ will be India’s official entry to the Best Foreign Film catgory at the Oscars next year, says a Film Federation of India official. The Amit Masurkar movie, starring Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav and Anjali Patil, tells the story of polling officer Newton Kumar, who is bent on conducting free and fair elections in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh.

2. First Scorpene submarine delivered to Indian Navy:

In a historic moment, the first Scorpene submarine Kalvari was delivered to the Indian Navy at the Mazagon Dock Ltd shipyard, paving way for it to be commissioned soon. Kalvari is named after the dreaded Tiger Shark, a deadly deep sea predator of the Indian Ocean. 
The new submarine has superior stealth features such as advanced acoustic silencing techniques, low radiated noise levels, hydro-dynamically optimised shape and the ability to launch a crippling attack on the enemy using precision guided weapons.\

3. Smart Cities to get digital ‘brain centres’:

Upcoming Smart Cities shall now go to a new level of monitoring and delivery of civic services through Digitally Integrated Central Command and Control Centres, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra said here on Friday. 
These centres would serve as the ‘brain centres’ of the Smart Cities for ensuring effective coordination in the functioning of various agencies of urban local bodies, thereby resulting in improved services delivery to the citizens.

4. 17 government printing presses to merge into 5, jobs protected:

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to the rationalisation and modernisation of all 17 government printing presses across the country by merging them into five units without causing any job losses. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the move would enable the government to take some 468 acres of land into the central pool. He said surplus employees at any printing press would be “redeployed” and all the jobs will be protected.

5. Lakshmanan, Chitra win gold at Asian indoor event:

India enjoyed a successful outing at the fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games here on Tuesday with Govindan Lakshmanan and P.U. Chitra winning gold in their respective events. Lashmanan registered a time of eight minutes and 2.30 seconds to win the men’s 3,000 metre title. 
Chitra, on the other hand, took gold in the women’s 1,500m event with a time of 4:27.32.

6. Annapurna Yojna to be launched:

The Gurajat State Government has launched the Shramik Annapurna Yojana for providing subsidized meals to the laborers of the state. This scheme was initially launched on an experimental basis at 83 hiring points for masons (kadiyanakas). This scheme will now be implemented in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Vadodara, and Valsad. 
According to the Principal Secretary of the labor and employment department Mr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta about 5.66 lakh laborers are registered with the labor board. He stated that the Shramik Annapurna YojanaThe scheme was initially launched at 83 kadiyanakas.
