1. India is world’s 40th most competitive economy: WEF :

India has been ranked as the 40th most competitive economy -- slipping one place from last year's ranking -- on the World Economic Forum's global competitiveness index, which is topped by Switzerland. On the list of 137 economies, Switzerland is followed by the US and Singapore in second and third places, respectively. In the latest Global Competitiveness Report released today, India has slipped from the 39th position to 40th while neighbouring China is ranked at 27th. 

2. PM launches Pradhan Mantri Saubhagya Yojana:

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today launched the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana, or Saubhagya, at New Delhi. The aim of this scheme is to provide power to all homes. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, the Prime Minister also dedicated a new ONGC building - the Deendayal Urja Bhawan. The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation, the Booster Compressor Facility in Bassein Gas Field.

3. Rajiv Mehrishi takes charge as new CAG:

Rajiv Mehrishi took charge as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India on Monday. Mehrishi is a 1978 batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan Cadre. Mehrishi, 62, retired after completing two terms as the Home Secretary in 2017. The CAG is appointed for a term of six years or till the incumbent attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. Mehrishi succeeds Shashi Kant Sharma who was the defence secretary, prior to his appointment in 2013.

4. Kerala govt to open Transgender clinics in medical colleges:

Known for its progressive initiatives towards the transgender community, the Kerala government has set an example for all states once again. For the first time in the country, exclusive clinics catering for the community will be soon functional in government medical colleges across the state and will offer sex-change surgeries. 

5. Govt launches new scheme for developing export linked infrastructure:

Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) seeks to bridge the infrastructure gap and provide forward and backward linkages to units engaged in trade activities. Launched by Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) seeks to bridge the infrastructure gap and provide forward and backward linkages to units engaged in trade activities. “It is going to be on participative basis and the focus is not just to create infrastructure and leave it, but make sure that it is professionally run and sustained,” Sitharaman told reporters here.
